Almost magical, these mushrooms are very rare. From a group of 10,000 aged trees, only two or three produce the network of fungus that can grow Reishi mushrooms. These mushrooms are known as the “King of Herbs”. Ganoderma Lucidum is a polypore mushroom also known as Lingzhi in China and as Reishi in Japan.

Cooking Ideas Reishi Tea 1. Break down the dried reishi mushroom in smaller pieces which are better for hot water extraction 2. Use about 4 - 5 cups of water for every 3 - 5 grams of reishi 3. Bring the water to a boil in a stainless steel or ceramic pot. Don't use aluminum. 4. Add the broken down mushroom pieces and Reduce the heat until the mixture is simmering, not boiling. Let it simmer for 2 hours. 5. Remove from the heat, strain, and set aside. Let the liquid cool for a little and it will be ready to drink. Reishi Extract 1. First you have to slice the dried reishi mushroom into the smallest bits possible. 2. Purchase a bottle of clear, 50% proof vodka. Decant a little for later use. 3. Now fill the vodka bottle to the brim with your reishi slices, 100g - 150g dry. 4. Then allow the slices to soak in the alcohol and top up the bottle with the vodka you decanted. 5. The mixture has to stay at room temperature for at least 7 days. 6. With time you will notice the vodka turning yellow; this is good and indicates a high amount of ganoderic acid in the extract. |

Directions on how to Rehydrate To rehydrate or reconstitute dried mushrooms, place desired amount into a bowl covered with warm water and let dried mushrooms soak for 30 minutes. After the 30 minutes have gone by, gently lift the mushrooms out of the water using a strainer. The mushrooms should be clean, plumped and ready to use. |
How to Store It is very important that dried mushrooms are stored properly to insure long term and maximum freshness. Place the mushrooms into either a plastic or glass container with a tight fitting lid. Our first recommendation, though, is freezing or storing in a refrigerator or freezer. Place the dried mushrooms in a clean, tight sealing freezer bag. The reason for maximum cold storage is because heat and moisture are the greatest enemies. The mushrooms should keep well for six months to a year. |
