More info

Ready to eat Sun Dried tomatoes are produced from sound, whole, ripe, red fresh tomatoes which are selected, washed with water, halved, then sun dried under controlled conditions. Sun dried tomatoes offer end-users a year-round, reliable source for pleasing tomato identity and taste.

A single sun-dried tomato can change the entire flavor of a meal. A tomato that is dehydrated in the sun develops an intense flavor and chewy texture without losing the nutrients

Sun dried tomatoes have a sweet, intense tomato flavor, brilliant red color and moist texture. They are rich in Vitamins A, B, C and a valuable source of iron, lycopene, potassium and phosphorus.

Ingredients: Sun Dried Tomatoes

Cooking Ideas

They are served with salads, pizzas, vegetables, pastas, meats, bread, and pesto. You can also chop the tomatoes and add them to cold pasta salad or garlic hummus, sprinkle them on a spinach pizza or use them to top burgers or roasted-vegetable sandwiches.

Health Benefits

  • One cup of sun-dried tomatoes provides 23 percent of the recommended daily intake of vitamin C and 16 percent of vitamin A. Vitamin C supports the immune system and neutralizes free radicals throughout the body. Vitamin A refers to a group of substances with different roles.
  • One cup of sun-dried tomatoes has about 1 milligram of lutein and zeaxanthin and 25 milligrams of lycopene. Lutein and zeaxanthin protect your eyes from age-related diseases, such as cataracts and macular degeneration.
  • A serving of sun-dried tomatoes delivers further heart benefits by providing 6 percent of the recommended daily intake of calcium and 25 percent of magnesium. Calcium is a well-known component of bones, but it also stimulates the contraction of heart muscles. Magnesium has the opposite role, helping to ensure normal heart rhythm by causing the heart muscles to relax.
Allergen Information: Contains Sulfites. Sulfites are inorganic salts that have antioxidant and preservative properties. May cause severe reactions, especially in asthmatics.

How to Store

Sun-dried tomatoes should be store in a zippered plastic bag, a jar with screw-on lid or plastic or a glass container with an airtight lid. Don't put them in contact with metal. Squeeze any air out of a plastic bag before sealing it; if you're using a container, pack the sun-dried tomatoes in tightly so they fill the entire container. Store the tomatoes in a cool, dark cabinet.

How to reconstitute

Let them soak in warm water for thirty minutes until soft and pliable, drain (reserve the liquid to add flavor to stocks and sauces), pat dry and use as directed in your recipe. You can also use wine, broth, or other cooking liquid to reconstitute.
